Grange Academy Celebrates Prestigious Artsmark Gold Award
Pupils and staff at Grange Academy are thrilled to announce they have been awarded the prestigious Artsmark Gold Award.
Artsmark is the only creative quality standard for schools, accredited by Arts Council England. It recognises schools' dedication to embedding a broad and ambitious curriculum that prioritises arts, culture, and creativity. Awarded schools are proven to experience improved pupil outcomes and well-being.
To achieve the Gold Award, Grange Academy significantly developed its arts and cultural provision. This involved creating a comprehensive plan that received school-wide commitment and implementation. Grange received invaluable professional support through an immersive learning programme from Artsmark's delivery partner, Goldsmiths, University of London. Renowned for their expertise in creative pedagogy and cultural placemaking, Goldsmiths provided essential guidance throughout Grange Academy's Artsmark journey.
Grange’s Artsmark Assessor stated that "You clearly have a long-term commitment to arts and culture which is having measurable effects on staff and pupils. All pupils can access a consistent range of arts and cultural provision through work with local arts and cultural organisations, in school and on visits outside the classroom, which leads to showcasing in school and the local community. There is extra-curricular activity, such as dance club, and SLT support. It's great to hear about your new Art Ambassadors for pupil voice, choir performances and the Bedfordshire Festival of Arts for showcasing, consideration of other cultures with the arts, and your pedagogical approach with the newly redesigned art and music curricula with progression of skills at the heart."
Rachel Timms, Headteacher of Grange Academy, expressed immense pride: “Achieving the Gold Artsmark Award is a tremendous milestone for Grange Academy, and a reflection of our unwavering commitment to creativity and the arts. This recognition celebrates the dedication of our students, staff, and community in fostering an environment where artistic expression thrives. At Grange Academy, we believe the arts empower young minds, inspire innovation, and enrich lives. This achievement is a testament to the power of collaboration and passion in transforming education through the arts."
Dr. Darren Henley OBE, Chief Executive of Arts Council England, congratulated Grange Academy:
"I extend my heartfelt congratulations to Grange Academy on achieving the Artsmark Gold Award. Creative activities and cultural experiences enrich our lives, broaden our perspectives, and equip us to understand the world around us. By offering a broad, ambitious, and creative curriculum, Grange Academy is fostering the development of character and resilience in its young people. These skills, along with increased knowledge and curiosity, will undoubtedly benefit them throughout their lives."
