Donation from Ex Pupil for Grange Community Farm

Toby Hayward an ex pupil from Grange Academy has completed an amazing challenge to raise funds for Grange Community Farm.

Grange Community Farm is a vital part of school life, offering pupils meaningful hands-on learning while supporting their emotional and social wellbeing. Running a school farm is expensive and requires significant time, expertise and resources; but it provides a calm, purposeful environment where pupils can develop confidence, independence and key life skills. The farm also hosts regular community open days; helping strengthen local connections and celebrate the pupils’ achievements.

On Friday 29th August 2025 Toby scaled the heights of the UK’s highest peaks.  He ran and hiked the summits of the Lake District’s highest peaks including Helvellyn before cycling over Kirkstone, Wrynose and Hardknott Passes.  The epic challenge didn’t stop there.  Toby then ran up Scafell Pike, and tackled Great Gable and Kirk Fell.  The entire trip covered 51 miles and a climb of 10,877 feet.

Toby was a pupil at Grange and wanted to give back to the school that enabled him to be the successful man he is today.

Toby raised an amazing £2700.  The money raised has enabled the farm to purchase a pygmy goat, Pickle,  to add to the goats we already have at the farm.  It will also support pupils leading a number of farm experiences for our local community.

Toby Hayward said:
“This challenge was designed to make me reflect on my time at Grange Academy and the support and experiences I received which felt long and difficult at times, but if you stay committed and keep moving forward you will eventually reach your goal.

The challenge was done entirely by my own determination and effort, running and cycling between each summit.  I wanted this to represent the idea of progress and determination in both education and life. No one can do the journey for you but with perseverance you can achieve more than you thought possible.”
